Jurong East Mall or Jem Overview

One of the largest suburban malls in Singapore, Jem is located in Jurong East of Singapore and is directly connected to Jurong East MRT station too. Jem is also close to the Jurong East Bus Interchange in Singapore. Jem is the short form and stands for Jurong East Mall.

Sometimes misspelled as Gem Mall, Jem shopping mall is currently the third-largest suburban mall in Singapore. Jem has 241 shop units and more than 818,000 square feet of retail space spread across six levels. The name Jem is a wordplay on the mall’s previous name, Jurong East Mall, and refers to it as the gem in the crown of Jurong and Singapore’s west. At the intersection of Jurong Gateway Road Singapore and Boon Lay Way Singapore, Jem mall has a direct connection to the Jurong East MRT interchange station. Jem is also right next to Westgate.

Jurong East Mall or Jem’s official debut was initially scheduled for June 11, 2013. Jem mall’s launch was postponed because of tenancy concerns. No units at Jem reportedly requested a Fire Safety Certificate or Temporary Permit (TFP) from the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF). Jem distributed discount coupons worth S$10 between 10 and 11 am on that day to console the disgruntled Singapore consumers to Jem who were negatively impacted by the opening’s delay. Jem ultimately opened on June 15, 2013 in Singapore, and more than 10,000 people went to Jem to shop there right away.
