Katong Shopping Centre Singapore overview

The Katong Shopping Centre is a mall in Singapore that is situated along Mountbatten Road Singapore. It was the first air-conditioned mall in Singapore when it was built in 1971 and opened to the public in 1973. The mall formerly housed a bowling alley on the seventh floor as well as a majority of textile, shoe, and food stores, is now home to many services, including tailoring, photocopying/printing, and a number of employment agencies and maid agencies in Singapore.

80% of the 410 owners approved the en bloc sales by the middle of January 2010. Owners anticipated getting at least $2000 per square foot of the reserve price. Katong Shopping Centre started its first attempt at en bloc sales in August 2011, with a completion date of mid-2012. The $445 million deal, however, was abandoned. A second effort at an en bloc sale was made as of June 2014 but is so far unsuccessful.

Name: Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice

Address: #B1-85/87 of Katong Shopping Centre Singapore

Opening days: Tuesdays to Sundays

Opening hours: 1045am to 7pm

The current Katong Shopping Centre chicken rice stall began as a small Chicken Rice food stall at the People’s Park Complex in 1988, before being relocated to Katong Shopping Centre and remaining there until the present day. Soki Wu, a second-generation hawker in Singapore who started out to run Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice, founded Katong Mei Wei in 2019.

This well-known food stall, a crowd favorite with Easties in Singapore for many years, is tucked away in the Katong Shopping Center’s basement. Some consider Katong Mei Wei to be one of Singapore’s top chicken rice restaurants, and there are never a shortage of snaking long lines there every day. Additionally, the fact that they serve crispy garlic bits with their boneless chicken rice makes them stand out from other vendors. Additionally, they provide free-flowing achar and soup to make things even better! Katong Mei Wei, sometimes called the Katong Shopping Centre chicken rice stall, is a food stall you wouldn’t want to miss out on because of its enormous popularity and signature dish.
