Marina Square Singapore Overview

Marina Square, was constructed in 1985 on the site of the reclaimed Marina Centre. Singapore Land is the owner of Marina Square Singapore.

When Marina Square first opened in 1986, Marina Square had 59,000 square metres of store space, making Marina Square the biggest shopping mall in Singapore. Marina Square also had anchor tenants like Tokyu department store and Metro department store in the late 1980s and early 1990s, in addition to an outdoor food court, a Magic Land arcade, and Eng Wah Cinema. A Golden Village cineplex, Superbowl arcade, and a bowling alley made up the Marina Leisureplex.

Marina Square mall’s first significant renovations began in 2004 and were finished in 2006. Marina Square’s layout was changed, and the outdoor food court transformed into an air-conditioned one. This brought the total shop space in Marina Square up to 65,000 square metres. Marina Square then had its second round of renovations, bringing its floor size to 100,000 square metres and updating its tenant roster. In Phase 1, a section named the Dining Edition, which included certain F&B enterprises brand-new to Singapore, was presented. Beginning in 2012, the renovation of Marina Square was finished in 2013. Phase 2 included a new retail wing facing Marina Bay and an expanded retail zone. Marina Leisureplex (GV Marina Square) and John Little department store had to close as part of the third phase of redevelopment work on Marina Square’s east wing. PSB Academy’s mega city campus took their place. Taking up the full level 3 of Marina Square’s East Wing, IT stores relocated by the closure of Funan Digitalife Mall (now known as just Funan Mall) opened in 2016.

Marina Square is also directly connected to Mandarin Oriental hotel via an indoor walkway.

If you are going to Marina Square via MRT, you can alight at Promenade MRT station and take either Exit A or Exit B to get to Marina Square. Alternatively, you can also alight at Esplanade MRT Station which is directly linked to Marina Square via a basement walkway.
