Wisma Atria Singapore Overview

A 230,000 square foot, 5 levels shopping centre called Wisma Atria is located on Orchard Road in Singapore between the junction of Scotts Road and Orchard Road of Singapore. Wisma Atria was inaugurated on November 13, 1986, and is connected to the Orchard MRT station and nearby malls by a vast underground network. Wisma Atria is a paradise for fashionable and trendy shoppers in Singapore.

The Wisma Indonesia building in Singapore was dismantled in 1983 to make way for The Wisma, a shopping centre. Wisma Development Pte Ltd, a division of A. W. Galadari Pte Ltd, a Dubai business controlled by the Galadari brothers, is the mall’s developer.

One of Abdul Wahab Galadari’s numerous businesses, A. W. Galadari Pte Ltd, was taken over by Dubai Bank Ltd, a bank owned by A. W. Galadari’s brothers, in 1984 after the United Arab Emirates government seized his assets due to transactions involving the Union Bank of the Middle East. After the Union Bank of the Middle East acquired Dubai Bank Ltd. in 1985, the shopping centre was given the eventual new name Wisma Atria.

In 2004, local Singapore architects and designers DP Architects renovated Wisma Atria. A new grand entrance facing Singapore’s Orchard Road on Level 2, a huge Wisma Atria sign, a new blue grid structure facing Orchard Road, external lighting escalators on the facade going to Levels 3 and 4, and the replacement of the original blue facade with clear glass are all noteworthy changes to Wisma Atria of Singapore.

Wisma Atria underwent renovations in the 2010s again, which completed in 2012. Wisma Atria is connected to Ngee Ann City, another shopping mall along Singapore’s Orchard Road, via an underpass as well as a sheltered walkway on ground level.

Wisma Atria also used to have this pretty big fish tank or aquarium, before the fish tank or aquarium got removed during renovations in 2008.

While more know Wisma for being a shopping mall in Singapore, Wisma Atria Office Tower also exists and it is located above the shopping centre.
